CONVERSATION & PRAYER WITH A THREE YEAR OLD
As we sit down to eat, Grandpa tells Anai that it’s time to fold her arms and bow her head so that we can say the blessing. Anai, in usual fashion, wants to play with her spoon and when that is taken away, picks up her fork. Putting off the blessing a little longer, she points to her grandpa and says in her sweet little voice,
“What, Anai”, replies Ganpa?
“I like your big ears”. (At this everyone tries to hide their giggles including Grandpa.)
“I like your ears to”. Now fold your arms and bow your head so that we can ask the blessing”.
“I like Jesus”.
“I like Jesus to”.
“He berry funny”.
“Who’s very funny”?
“Jesus berry funny. I lub Him. He my friend.”
“I’m glad to hear that. Now fold your arms and bow your head.”
“Would you like to ask the blessing”?
“Okay, who would you like to help you”? Mommy, Aunt Karrie, Grandma”?
“Okay”. “DEAR HEAVENLY FATHER”
“Dear Heavenly Father”
“WE COME BEFORE THEE NOW”
“We come afore Thee now”
“TO THANK THEE FOR THIS FOOD”
“Thank Thee this food”
“PLEASE BLESS IT TO OUR NOURISHMENT AND HEALTH”
(Off on her own tangent) “Bless mommy, daddy, ganpa, ganma, Aunt Karrie, Jesus, Sassy, Owo, Lucy. Bless we go to temple when daddy gets home. Help daddy home from Mexico soon. “
“PLEASE BLESS THIS FOOD TO OUR BODIES”.
“Bless the food. Jesus name, Amen”.
“I like your face”.
Now what can you say to that?
